Sloka of the Day - May 14, 2025
कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन। मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि॥
karmaṇy-evādhikāras te mā phaleṣhu kadāchana mā karma-phala-hetur bhūr mā te saṅgo 'stv akarmaṇi
Meaning:
You have a right to perform your prescribed duties, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions. Never consider yourself to be the cause of the results of your activities, nor be attached to inaction.
Context & Significance
This verse appears in the second chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, where Lord Krishna begins his teachings to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Arjuna is confused and dejected about fighting against his own relatives. Krishna explains the immortality of the soul and then proceeds to explain the philosophy of Karma Yoga - the path of selfless action.
